Frank Auerbach

Im in the midst of an oil painting, of a Burned corpse i found online. The image itself looks like a painting in itself, so i feel it would lend itself to the textured look of oils. i have never used oil paint before and have wated to for sometime, but always been slightly intimidated buy them.

I like Frank Auerbach’s style moulding and shaping the painting as if moulding a sculpture with clay. Layering the pant to give form, as a posed to created detail and shadows as perhaps watercolour inks might be used.

Im using a painting trowel to apply the paint to the board. this allows me to fill a larger space at a time as well as texturising the surface and finish at the same time. I plan to layer over the paint with a brush at the final stages to create definition and detail to pick out the facial structure.
